Katherine Watson vs. Charles Dickens

Katherine Watson's teaching methods were to allow her students to have an independent thought and to think outside the box. She wanted her students to be able to consider things society told them not to. She also wanted to connect with her students, and to actually teach them in life not only their classroom. She took her job as a teacher very seriously, versus every other teacher in this time period who only wanted to teach them what was "required". The teaching method in Charles Dickens novel Hard Times is the complete opposite of Watson's methods. In Hard Times, the method of teaching is to only facts. To remove anything with emotion and lively hood, and to only teach them required facts in textbooks. It is a very closed off, inside the box, style. Which is polar opposite to Ms. Watson's choices.
