Importance of Scholarships

Scholarships are important not only for providing money, but also for pushing students to succeed. It also helps praise students who may be different, such as a left handed person, etc. Most scholarships require a certain grade point average, class rank, and or SAT/ACT scores. This makes student strive for greatness. Not only is it nice to have your college paid for, but it is also nice to be appreciated for having good grades and doing everything right. Not all parents have the money to pay for college, this is a way to still be appreciated and feel worth something.

Admission Requirements Reflection

I have a few things left to do for my admissions process. The main school I want to go to allows early acceptance, so I already sent an application, my essay, and one of the letters of recommendation.

  • 1 more letter (of recommendation) from my pastor
  • 1 more letter (of recommendation) from anyone
  • SAT score report
  • High school transcript
I plan to everything as soon as possible, during next week since I've already applied. Academically, I feel my SAT scores could improve but I feel I am where I need to be. The first college is really for me, the second one is just my backup. JBU is where I want and need to be, if I don't get into it then I'll adjust and pick another college similar to it.

U.S. School System

I think the United States school system does provide a lot of options in college. I think other places may do better in Secondary education, or high school and middle school, but the U.S. is very good at having quality Universities. For example, in Cuba school is government paid for, but going to college seems like a stretch whereas here it's very common.

College Degrees

A college degree is definitely necessary and worth the cost. No one ever got in trouble for being "too smart," furthering your education is always a good choice. Not only is a degree important in order to sustain yourself and a family, but it's important socially. It's easier to take someone seriously, and respect them if they are educated. With a fast paced society, it's much easier to keep up if you have a high degree, and have some of the life experience that you get from going to college.
